MUJCA is a students' association whose strong tie with its members has made it enjoy a roller coaster ride in all its programmes. As a leading association in Makerere University, MUJCA continues to attract the attention of all kinds of journalists in the country.

The hope and assurance that it provides has therefore propelled it to have weekly interactions with notable personalities like Andrew Muwenda with whom issues of policy in the country have always been discussed. Internationally, MUJCA is proudly associated with the world’s leading Journalism universities like that of Colorado and the US state department in championing the issue of press freedom.

Being at the centre of journalism and public relations in East Africa, MUJCA is tailored skillfully with a vibrant, focused and pro active administration. This is championed by H.E Mukombe Ronnie Prince and his highly classified elite team that includes dedicated boys like Sampaul Nakhaima and Wandera Fredrick. The Association is guided by the caring hands of the Journalism and Communication department.


MUJCA is designed on the following aims and objectives

  • To facilitate interactions and promote unity among journalism and Communication students at Makerere University.
  • To establish a sense of identity among Journalism and Communication students through issuance of membership cards.
  • To promote the welfare of MUJCA members.
  • To promote healthy interactions with the University administration and the rest of the students’ community of Makerere University.
  • To establish cooperation with media organizations, institutions or individuals for purpose of promoting the interests of the association.
  • To instil the culture of discipline, dignity, ethical responsibility and pride in the profession amongst Journalism and Communication Students.


There a number of activities that MUJCA carries out both within and outside the university. Some of these activities include but not limited to the following.

  • Academic symposium on the freedom of the press in Uganda
  • Internal debate on selected motions
  • Orienting fresh first year students
  • Welcome party for  first year students
  • Field visits to local media houses.
  • Academic tours to various institutions handling the same field

Indeed MUJCA is here to stay.
