President Museveni has said he has no time for emotions when dealing with national matters that pertain education.
Speaking at the closure of the Security awareness week at Makerere University on September 11th, Museveni who was the guest of honor said he hates it when people dillydally with issues in education that can be solved easily.
Referring to the 10% tuition policy that was formerly endorsed by the Makerere University administration, Museveni asked why students and parents were put on tension by the increment.
“Why do you have wars over nothing?” asked Museveni, “… it is high time to stabilize and standardize and upgrade the quality of University education in Uganda,” Museveni said.
Makerere students were greeted with good news when Museveni promised to pay the increment for the students for this academic year.
Museveni also promised to take it up with the ministry of Education to see to it that the University’s perimeter wall is included in the budget of the next financial year.
“It cannot be done this year because we have already budgeted but you will surely get it next year,” he said.
This was in response to a petition earlier submitted by the University’s guild president, Ivan Bwowe and his Vice Lillian Aber for the urgent need of a perimeter wall around the University.
“The biggest insecurity is that we have over 15 inlets into the university,” Bwowe said.
A large part of the Makerere boundary lies naked especially that on the side of University hall after Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) demolished the kiosks that acted as fences to the University.
The security awareness week was organized by the Makerere students’ guild together with the Uganda police as part of the police centenary celebrations.
The security week which started on September 8th was aimed at ensuring that university students learn skills that can help them in community and individual policing.
