Journalism Head New School Dean

The Head of the Department of Journalism and Communication (DJC), Dr. Aaron Mushengyezi has been voted the new Dean for the school of Languages Literature and Communication (SLLC). Dr. Mushengyezi polled 46 while his challenger, Dr. Edith Natukunda Togboa, polled 23 in a Friday November 29th election at SLLC.
In an interview shortly after his election, Dr. Mushengyezi, was thankful for the overwhelming victory. “I am overwhelmed by the support from the entire school that have made this landslide victory possible, and that challenges me deliver,” he said.
 
He outlined a five-pronged approach for the school for the next four years. The approach, contained in a four-page manifesto will focus on writing grant winning projects, enabling staff to do research, publish and grow professionally, initiating partnerships locally and internationally, improving service delivery, and, academics and innovation in the school. 

Dr. Mushengyezi, has been the acting head of DJC since 2011. He holds a Phd from the University of Connecticut, USA and has supervised one PhD candidate and 10 MA students. He is an Associate Professor in Literature and has written 2 scholarly books, 8 journal articles, book chapters, 5 short articles in an Encyclopedia and10 edited series of bi-lingual children’s readers for schools among his many works.

He leaves the department with a host of achievements and says he will miss his cooperative and hardworking DJC team. “We have won a $3m project, recruited more staff and I will leave the department better than I found it,” he said, adding, “I am happy we have had a good team and I will greatly miss them.”
He also pledged more support for the department, saying it would have better future. “As Dean, I will be there to support the department and I am convinced it has a bright future,” he said.

The position of the school dean fell vacant in October, when the then dean, Dr. Ernest Okello Ogwang, was voted the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs (DVC AA), a position that had fallen vacant following the appointment of Prof. Lillian Tibatemwa Ekirikubinza, the then DVC AA, as a Judge in the Court of Appeal.
