About Me

John Baptist Imokola is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Journalism and Communication, and an Andrew Mellon PhD Fellow in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. His doctoral work is on regulation of television programming in Uganda, with specific interest on local content quotas.

He has been a journalism trainer since 2008, with teaching stints at International Institute of Business and Media Studies, Nkumba University and Muteesa 1 Royal University. He has offered speeches and motivational talks to aspiring journalists, and young ones starting the profession. He has also written and presented a couple of papers about the Ugandan media.

Mr Imokola is an experienced journalist, growing through the ranks of a News Reporter, News Anchor, and News Editor, News Producer to heading two national television newsrooms in Uganda. He has worked with several local television stations, including Uganda Television (now Uganda Broadcasting Corporation), Record TV Network - Uganda, former WBS Television, NBS Television, and with occasional contribution to international networks. He has also been News Editor at Uganda Radio Network. During his journalism career, he has served as training editor at both Record Television Network - Uganda, and WBS Television.

While carrying out these tasks, he gained a lot of experience in Television Production including script writing and editing, camera work, video and audio editing, control room operations, online broadcasting, live broadcast, and media management in a Television setting.

John holds an MA in Journalism and Communication from Makerere University, and a Hons Bachelors Degree from Makerere University. But he has also attained several certificates in different fields to further his experience and training. 

He has also had consultancy stints in broadcast journalism, communication and public relations with reputable organizations in the country.

He is also involved in research work, with interests in journalism practice, media management, media and culture (especially television), audience studies, among others. He has been academic staff at the Department since February, 2012.
